Message From The Chair – October 2021

As we move into the final months of the year, I wanted to remind you of several important events we have scheduled, some are online, and several will be held in-person as lockdowns and travel restriction ease.

17 November (Wednesday) – Climate Change Law and Governance Conference
Legalwise Seminars has invited the Group of 100 to participate in its first ever Climate Change Law and Governance Conference. A panel of experts, including Terence Jeyaretnam (Partner EY) representing the G100, will work through the climate narrative transforming capital markets and investment, financial and non-financial reporting, insurance, directors’ duties, legal obligations and litigation, and climate geopolitics.  G100 members are offered a discount of 30% for tickets and to obtain the G100 discount please use discount code G10030 and for group booking discounts you will need to call Sydney (02) 9387 8133.  The conference is being held in-person and online.  For details of the full program click the following link Climate Change Conference.

24 November (Wednesday) – MEMBERS DINNER MELBOURNE
As you know, after each G100 Board meeting, a dinner for Members is held.  We have proceeded with just one of our scheduled Members Dinners this year due to the pandemic, however, I am very pleased to advise that the scheduled Members Dinner on 24 November will be held in-person in Melbourne hosted by EY.  A panel of speakers is being assembled by EY and will be unpacking the outcomes of COP26 and Australia’s net zero ambition, and discussing the pathways to net zero as a nation, including the technological advances that will be required.   In recognition that some members may not yet be ready or in a position to fly from other states, EY has offered to host a similar dinner in Sydney in December (see below).  The invitation to this dinner is for Members and will be forwarded in the next few days; attendance at our dinners is complimentary and is part of your G100 annual membership subscription.

1 December (Wednesday) – ‘Cyber-security – CFOs can’t take a back seat’ webinar in association with Oracle.  The true extent of cybercrime is under-reported, and the risks and impacts can be underestimated by finance professionals. The advent of new ransomware on the dark web means that it is when, not if, your organisation will fall victim.  CFOs can no longer afford to take a back seat.  The webinar will outline the current trends on cyber-security, the spread of ransomware and most importantly, what finance leaders should be doing to best prepare for it.  It will feature world leading ransom-attack expert Professor Adolfo Grego, who will share current trends and how CFOs and technology can help mitigate the risks.  An invitation will be emailed to members next week.  This webinar is for members and their teams, there is no charge for this G100 event.

3 December (Friday) – ‘Taking a closer look at Diversity & Inclusion’ webinar
Following the very successful panel session in conversation with three leading women CFOs earlier this year, this webinar will feature leading diversity advocate, Frances Feenstra, and diversity academic Dr Terrance Fitzsimmons of the University of Queensland to further unravel why diversity is still an issue today, what is being done and what more should be done.  A detailed eDM will be sent to members in coming days, this webinar is for members and their teams, there is no charge for this G100 event.

6 December (Monday) – CFO LIVE CONFERENCE SYDNEY
This third CFO Live Conference put on by the AFR in association with the G100 will see the nation’s top finance chiefs discuss how they will continue navigating disruption, capitalise on accelerated change and seize growth opportunities for a post-pandemic economy.  This is the only G100 event that requires an admission fee.  Please click on the link to register, however, if you wish to obtain the G100 20% discount please contact Louise either on 0413 959 060 or via email g100@group100.com.au

6 December (Monday) – MEMBERS DINNER SYDNEY
EY have offered to host a dinner in Sydney following the CFO Live event.  A panel of speakers is being assembled by EY and will be unpacking the outcomes of COP26 and Australia’s net zero ambition, and discussing the pathways to net zero as a nation, including the technological advances that will be required.  The invitation to this dinner is for Members and will be forwarded next week; attendance at our dinners is complimentary and is part of your G100 annual membership subscription.

I look forward to seeing you at some of these events.  If you have any questions, please call Louise on 0413 959 060 or via email at g100@group100.com.au
