Message from the Chair – April 2022

As we move away from COVID restrictions into a general election, interest rate rises and geopolitical uncertainty, I hope all members are well and embracing the challenges that the world continues to throw at us.

I would like to take this opportunity to update members on a few important issues regarding the G100 currently:

Political Engagement Day, June Board Meeting & Members’ Dinner
Due to the Federal Election being held at the end of May, we have decided to postpone the Political Engagement Day, Board Meeting and members’ dinner scheduled for Wednesday 22 June in Canberra.  This will now take place later in the year when the dust from the election has settled.

July Board Meeting and Members’ Dinner
It has been decided to hold the next Board Meeting and Members’ Dinner on 14 July in Sydney as a result of postponing the June events in Canberra.  The Dinner will be hosted for the G100 by PwC – details will be sent to Members in the next fortnight.

AGM and Board Meeting
Earlier this month the G100 held its AGM.  At this meeting we farewelled Andrew Porter and Leah Weckert as they stepped down from the Board.  At the same time we welcomed Alison Harrop to the Board.

At the Board Meeting which followed, key discussions were on:

  • the upcoming Federal Election and the engagement opportunities this was providing
  • the work beginning with Accounting for Sustainability (A4S)
  • updates from our six working groups
  • the rollout of a mentoring trial for members which will be discussed in more detail later in the year

A4S
Work has begun with A4S.  A series of webinars and workshops are being finalised which will start being rolling out in the next month.  The research and practical material on sustainability and the role CFOs and their teams can play, will be accessible from the G100 website.  Details on how this can be accessed will be sent to each member.

Diversity & Inclusion
The Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Working Group is undertaking a research project to determine what best practise D&I initiatives are relevant to finance functions.

The research work is focused on:

  • Review of current literature and survey findings
  • Online interviews with CFO’s from G100 companies
  • Online survey with some members of finance teams

The findings will be used as the basis of a paper for members and other stakeholders and for a webinar to be held later in the year.  Many CFOs and their teams have already been contacted, if you haven’t been contacted and would like to be involved, please contact Louise Wardley at g100@group100.com.au

Opportunities for Members’ Team
The G100 is committed to not only providing opportunities for CFO Members, but also for their teams:

Michael Page
I am pleased to announce that the G100 has entered into an arrangement with Michael Page to supply webinars and training for Member CFO’s senior staff.

Mentoring
As mentioned, the G100 has begun a mentoring trial which will see senior members of one member’s team being mentored by another member CFO.  The trial is being conducted with a handful of companies over the next few months.  If it proves successful, the program will be made available to all members.

In addition to the Michael Page events and training, and the mentoring program, there continue to be development opportunities through the G100/EY First 100 Day Program and participating in the working groups.  For further information on any of these please contact g100@group100.com.au

Webinars and Events
Please keep an eye out for details on the next series of webinars – invitations will be coming to you regularly.  Some of these will offer opportunities for finance teams to participate in person and other events will solely be in person for CFOs.

Subscriptions
A final notice will be sent to members who still have not paid their subscriptions for the year.  If you haven’t yet paid, it would be appreciated if that could be done quickly so we can continue to roll out our programs effectively.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Members’ Dinner in Sydney on Thursday 14 July.

Best regards
