Leading business association, Group of 100 announces Janelle Hopkins as new Chair

The Group of 100 (“G100”) announced Janelle Hopkins had been appointed as Chair following the conclusion of Andrew Porter’s two-year term.

Mr Porter said he was very pleased with the appointment. He said that Ms Hopkins’s vast experience would help the G100 maintain its significant voice for CFOs and senior finance executives in Australia.

“Fresh from her transformative role at Australia Post, and as now CFO of one of the leading Australian companies that have embraced and thrived on disruption, competition and technological advance, Janelle Hopkins, CFO of REA Group will be taking over as Chair,” Mr Porter said. “Having worked alongside her on the Board of the G100, I can, without hesitation, say that she will represent the profession very well.”

Ms Hopkins said that she was looking forward to taking on the role. “The Group of 100 is Australia’s top business association for CFOs and is in a unique position to drive change,” Ms Hopkins said.

“I’m excited about taking on the Chair role, as G100’s agenda shaping the business context to support economic growth, increases participation and productivity and creates more opportunities for Australians,” she said.

Mr Porter also announced that Martyn Roberts and Lawrie Tremaine would join Ms Hopkins as Deputy Chairs of the G100. “Janelle will be supported by two CFOs who are respected throughout the CFO community, business and amongst investors as being at the top of their game. Having worked alongside them and invested with them, I am delighted that they are taking on these roles.”

Ms Hopkins, Mr Roberts and Mr Tremaine will take up the new roles in January next year. Earlier this year, the G100 become a Registered Australian Body.

Janelle Hopkins recently joined REA Group as Chief Financial Officer. Before that, she was the Group Chief Financial Officer for Australia Post, since 2013. In her capacity as CFO, Ms Hopkins has been responsible for finance, risk and assurance, group real estate, treasury, superannuation and corporate development. Ms Hopkins is an accomplished finance executive with more than 25 years’ experience. Prior to Australia Post, Ms Hopkins held several senior finance roles at National Australia Bank including financial controllership of the Australian region, MLC and strategic transformation roles within the Wholesale Division. These diverse roles have given her a broad knowledge of all aspects of the financial services industry. Ms Hopkins started her career with Professional Services firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, where she developed her passion for leadership, business transformation and growth.

Martyn Roberts joined Coca-Cola Amatil in 2005 as Group Chief Financial Officer. In 2017 he also became the Chairman of Australian Beer Company Pty Ltd, the Coca-Cola Amatil and Casella joint venture. Before Coca Cola Amatil, Mr Roberts worked for seven years at Woolworths in several senior executive and high profile positions. Prior to Woolworths, Mr Roberts spent 10 years in various senior financial roles in the fashion and luxury goods sector in Sydney, London, Hong Kong and Paris. After gaining a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of York, Mr Roberts started his career with Coopers and Lybrand in the UK where he became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.

Lawrie Tremaine joined Origin Energy Limited in June 2017 as Chief Financial Officer. Mr Tremaine has over 30 years’ experience in financial leadership, predominantly in the resource, oil and gas and minerals processing industries. Prior to joining Origin, Mr Tremaine held several senior positions during his 10 years at Woodside Petroleum including Chief Financial Officer for over six years. Before joining Woodside, Mr Tremaine worked at Alcoa for 17 years culminating in five years in Tokyo and Beijing as Vice President Finance, Alcoa Asia Pacific. Mr Tremaine has extensive experience in capital markets, managing corporate finances and leading change.  

The Group of 100 is Australia’s peak body representing Chief Financial Officers and senior finance executives from the public and private sectors. The G100 contributes to the development and delivery of policy as it applies to business regulation, governance, financial reporting, taxation and capital markets. It advances the interests of Australian business, encouraging conditions that allow private and public enterprises to grow and compete in today’s highly competitive environment. The G100 members, and the major enterprises they represent, come from publicly listed and private companies, international companies working in Australia, as well as government departments and agencies.
