Neville Mitchell, chief financial officer at Cochlear Limited, has been elected National President of the Group of 100, the organisation representing the senior finance executives of Australia’s leading enterprises.

He succeeds Terry Bowen, CFO of Wesfarmers Limited, who has held the position for two years.

Neville Mitchell has been CFO of Cochlear Limited since listing in 1995 and prior to that held senior positions with KPMG in South Africa. He holds directorships on a number of Cochlear Limited domestic and offshore subsidiaries.

“It is encouraging to be taking on this role at a time when the Federal Government is actively pursuing a reform agenda to cut red tape across a plethora of regulation which hampers business and adds to costs,” said Mr Mitchell.

“A primary function of the Group of 100 is to bring a commercial perspective and practical solutions to often highly technical discussion. It will be working closely with other peak business bodies and the government directed at achieving the right policy settings at a time when Australia and its business sector face significant challenges and pressures.”

“The role of the CFO is now firmly recognised for its strategic function and contribution to decisionmaking so I look forward to tapping into the commercial and technical competencies of the G100 whose principal mission is to contribute to the maintenance and strengthening of Australia’s international competitiveness,” said Mr Mitchell.

The Group of 100 is Australia’s peak body representing the senior finance executives of the nation’s top 100 enterprises.
